In article for Politics First, a UK political magazine, MP Andrea Jenkyns, a member of the Health Select Committee, highlights how 300,000 people a year affected by healthcare-associated infections, including MRSA. Hospital infections cost the NHS £1billion a year. Shockingly, up to 40 per cent of those infections are preventable.
“Refreshingly, we are now beginning to see potential breakthrough treatments,” she writes. “One treatment is Reactive Oxygen. To date, no Gram-positive, Gram-negative or multi-resistant bacteria has survived that treatment. Considering that no new antibiotics have been created for decatds, this new technology could represent a revolutionary step forward to attempt to solve the growing threat of superbugs.”
